Tackling Paid Patriotism

Senators John MaCain and Jeff Flake have released an oversight report showing widespread evidence that the Department of Defense has been paying professional sports teams in the National Football League, Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League, and Major League Soccer to honor American soldiers at sporting events. The report shows that contrary to the leagues’ assertions, 72 of the 122 contracts amounting to $6.8 million contained some form of paid patriotism.  More …

“The Police Crime Database includes summary information on 8,006 criminal arrest cases from the years 2005-2012 involving 6,596 individual nonfederal sworn law enforcement officers, each of whom were charged with one or more crimes. The arrested officers were employed by 2,830 state, local, and special law enforcement agencies located in 1,302 counties and independent cities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.”  More …
